Vostro 3515 giving unseated ram AC LED error code

I have a Vostro 3515 and I used to have this problem where every now and then it would just give a memory failure error (AC LED flashes orange 2 times then white 4 times) pretty often like once a week maybe, then after a few hours or a day it would just fix itself and continue working.

Now though its just not turning on and giving that error, its been a few days and it refuses to post. I'e followed a few dell support threads by moving the DIMM (2 slots in laptop but only one stick so I moved it in between them) and it gave the same error, and when I just took it out altogether I got no memory detected (2 orange, 3 white flashes) so I believe the slot is working. I have no other laptops to test the memory of/from so I would really appreciate any help about anyone with a similar problem or just any way to resolve this.

No -- it is always best to purchase RAM certified for your system.  Kingston, Crucial and others have memory configurators that will help you select compatible memory.

Other memory will also work, subject to avoiding high performance "gaming" RAM, which is timed to aggressively and "economy" RAM -- Value RAM, Value Select, etc. -- which is inconsistent in quality.

Sounds like you have a bad memory module -- which needs to be replaced.

@ejn63 Ah ok i'll look into getting a replacement and see if that works thanks. By the way any SODIMM DDR4 module should work right?
