XPS 15 9560, Doing away with Waves MaxxAudio, Fixed

Ok... so this as been an ongoing dilemma for me and it's time I took action instead of working around it.  It's concerning this AWFUL piece of software called Waves MaxxAudio.  I've been ALL over the web to find some type of hack or workaround to make this curse go away, and there are limited options.

I work in audio and love my XPS, and wanted to use it as a mobile satellite unit.  It's impossible to do so because of the signal processing that goes on, which does all kinds of things to the sound.  What I need is for the audio to be totally, completely and 100% unaffected by the software.  Not to mention, This whole business of selecting what happens when you plug in your headphones has got to go.  This should be automatically detected.  I know plenty of Windows systems that do this.

Well, regardless of any of the reasons, I want it gone, and I should be able to do so EASILY, not by jumping through all these hoops.  I'm kind of disappointed that Dell would agree to making this a NON option.  But I'm sure they don't care what I (the minority in this case) want.  That being said, here's my plan:

I'd like to do a fresh, clean reinstall of windows 10 so that NONE OF THE SOFTWARE that ships with any Dell system is included.  What I want to know is: Can I install a driver THAT ISN'T REALTEK and will NOT HAVE WAVES MAXXAUDIO as it's main audio manager, when I install a fresh Windows 10?

Has anyone done this on an XPS with any success?  I have read that Windows now automatically detects your product key by identifying your machine, so I don't think that's an issue at this point, but I just want to make sure that if I go through this rather arduous process of reinstalling all my software, that I will NEVER, EVER see this MaxxAudio curse ever again?

While Realtek has decent eithernet and USB controllers, their audio drivers have been junk for the last several years. I have a HP 250 G4 with Realtek audio, and its awful. First it was the mandatory poorly configured side-band compressor that couldn't be turned off at all. I disabled all enhancements and kept the volume at half way in all applications in order to minimize it's effect. Even with all of the enhancements turned off, the audio remained on the tinny side. (Why would they do that when your laptop speakers already sound thin and tinny?) The only way to get bypass all the processing was to connect something to the headphone jack or send the audio to a bluetooth speaker. The other problem was popping, clicking noises that occurred when a Windows sound event was played. This is pretty much common on every computer made within the last several years, and Realtek still hasn't addressed it. This only happened when a driver version newer than March 2015 (I think) was installed. Every time Windows 10 was updated to the next version, a newer audio driver was installed, which I promptly switched back to the older version. I recently reinstalled Windows 10 on that computer and gave it to my Mom, but when I did, I switched the driver to Microsoft's High Definition Audio Device, which instantly got rid of those annoyances. The only thing that I lost was the stereo mix, which she'll never use.

Now... Waves MaxxAudio Pro. Obviously my Dell Inspiron 3583 came with this. I tried using the stereo mix last night, only to get a low frequency out of phase concert hall effect. I tried numinous things and settings and turned off the maxxbass setting with no luck. I tried plugging in an audio cable and using another computer in place of the stereo mix, only to get a lack of bass and increase in treble. I also noticed that when plugging in my headphones, the drivers, Maxxwaves or Windows wasn't switching from the internal speaker (profile wise) and the MaxxWaves profile was constantly stuck on TV. I uninstalled the MaxxWaves driver, restarted the computer, and the High Definition Audio Device driver was installed. Upon restarting again, the Realtek drivers/MaxxAudio app was forced onto my computer via Windows Update. I tried switching to the High Definition Audio Driver, but every time I tried to, it stayed on Realtek Audio and the driver didn't work. After some fiddling around, I finally got the Realtek/MaxxWaves app working correctly. When I plug in my headphones, it switches to that profile, unlike before. I shut the MaxxBass option off, and the audio sounds better now, but I wish that I could have the MaxxBass on for the internal speakers and off for the headphones and other devices, much like it was on my HP.

But yeah. Manufactures need to stop forcing this audio enhancing and allow the user to control it. Realtek is the worse, and unfortunately, they're pretty much the only supplier of integrated audio controllers out there.

OK. Now I'm getting that annoying popping, clicking noise when Windows sound events play. Ugh! It wasn't doing this before when I had the issue with the stereo mix/headphone jack. As far as I'm aware, its the same driver version.

Also, does anyone know how to stop Windows 10 from automatically reinstalling the Realtek drivers and the MaxxAudio app every time I uninstall them and restart my computer? Microsoft doesn't seem to get the hint. And how do I make Windows retain the proper High Definition Audio Device driver without it being automatically updated with this Realtek garbage?

I'm ready to help you interpret the PowerShell output and troubleshoot the issues you're encountering. Here's a breakdown of the key points:

1. PowerShell Errors:

    • Incorrect commands: Several commands were entered incorrectly, such as WindowsInstallBuildNumber, etc. These aren't recognized as valid cmdlets or functions in PowerShell.
    • Syntax errors: The commands bcdedit and Get-Package were used with incorrect syntax, leading to errors.
    • Missing or incorrect parameters: Some commands were missing required parameters or had invalid values specified.

2. Unsuccessful Actions:

    • Disabling Data Execution Prevention (DEP): The bcdedit /set {current} nx OptOut command failed to disable DEP.
    • Uninstalling WavesMaxxAudioPro: The Get-Package and Stop-Service commands couldn't find the package or service, indicating it might not be installed or the names are incorrect.

Next Steps:

    1. Review the correct commands: Double-check the syntax and parameters for the commands you intended to use.
    1. Provide more context: If you need further assistance, share:
        • The specific task you're trying to accomplish.
        • Any additional error messages or context.
    1. Consider alternative approaches: If the commands aren't working as expected, explore other methods to achieve your goal.

I'm here to provide more specific guidance as needed. Please share any further details or questions you have.
