Red Hat® Linux is an excellent migration platform for customers with business critical software previously restricted to proprietary UNIX platforms. Our Linux offerings enable workstation customers in key industries such as Oil & Gas Exploration, Electronic Design Automation (EDA), Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) and Finance.
"For the past six years, Dell & Red Hat have been developing workstation-class solutions to create CAD models and 3D effects leveraging the performance, security and reliability of Dell Precision Workstations and a Red Hat Enterprise Linux offering."
- Tim Yeaton, Sr. Vice President of Marketing, Red Hat, February 2006
Dell offers customers the choice of Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS or FreeDOSTM on select Dell PrecisionTM workstation systems. Dell factory installed versions of Red Hat Linux provide customers with a tested, optimized, certified and supported platform on which to run their professional workstation applications. Before deciding on an operating system, Dell recommends that customers check a hardware compatibility list to help ensure driver support with their existing or legacy environment.
Comprehensive Linux Support
Dell supports your workstation to help ensure the proper hardware functionality. Computers purchased with Red Hat Linux factory installed also come with installation and configuration support from Dell and a one or three year subscription to the Red Hat Network. Red Hat Network allows administrators to efficiently manage the systems on their network. Through a simple user interface, administrators can perform patch management, updates, monitoring, and maintenance. With the exception of reinstalled original Dell versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS for Dell Precision workstations, Dell does not provide technical assistance for customer installed Linux operating systems.
