Can PowerScale tier cold data to the cloud?
Yes, PowerScale can automatically tier inactive or "cold" data to a variety of public and private cloud targets. This is managed through the CloudPools policy engine, which allows you to define rules based on file age, access time, or other attributes.
How is cluster resilience maintained during a failure?
Cluster resilience is a core strength of the OneFS operating system. PowerScale uses software-defined erasure coding to protect data by distributing it along with parity information across multiple nodes and drives. If a drive or even an entire node fails, the data remains fully accessible. The system automatically rebuilds the protected data onto available space in the cluster, with rebuild times optimized on high-performance NVMe SSDs to quickly restore full redundancy without impacting operations.
