Dell: The power to do more. The Dell logo screen appears soon after the system is powered on. But what if the system does not go past this screen? Here's something you can do to fix this.

Devices such as pen drives and CDs left in the tray could also cause the computer to freeze on the Dell logo screen. Disconnect all peripheral devices such as printer, pen drive or port replicator, if connected.

Then start your computer and check again. Sometimes, residual power in the system could cause it to freeze at the Dell logo screen. Once it is released, the computer usually boots to Windows. Here's how we do it. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery, if accessible.

Press and hold down the "Power" button for about 5 to 8 seconds. Release the "Power" button, insert the battery, and connect the AC adapter. Power on the system now and check if the computer boots to Windows.

Enter the system setup by hitting the "F2" key. Look under the "Boot" or "Maintenance" tab and set the "Hard Drive" as the primary boot device, if not set already.

Save the changes and exit to restart the computer. Observe if the computer boots to Windows.
