Symptoms
Non-standard PCIe adapters over heating or throttling due to inadequate cooling.
Cause
In case additional hardware is added, for example a PCIe card, it may require additional cooling. The thermal control algorithm may not provide adequate cooling for 3rd party PCIe cards.
Resolution
iDRAC7 and iDRAC8 provide the ability to increase the fan speeds over the baseline fans speeds calculated by the thermal control algorithm. The iDRAC7 and iDRAC8
Fan Speed Offset option allows additional cooling to the server. This value can be set through RACADM or the iDRAC Menu.
Possible values are:
- Low Fan Speed - Drives fan speeds to a moderate fan speed.
- Medium Fan Speed - Drives fan speeds close to medium.
- High Fan Speed - Drives fan speeds close to full speed.
- Max Fan Speed - Drivers fan speeds to full speed.
- Off - Fan speed offset is set to off. This is the default value.
Fan speed offset is dynamic and based on the system. The fan speed offset increases all fan speeds by the same percentage.
