Area-51 R1, hard drive

I'm trying to install a second hard drive into my computer and it is giving me trouble. The pins are correct and it snaps into place but it's not recognized by Bios. It's a SATA hard drive and made by Western Digital.

I'm guessing you mean an Alienware Area51-R1.

Are you sure the HDD is good?

Does it feel/sound-like HDD is spinning-up ?

Are you sure the HDD is sliding into place completely (so both connectors fully engage) ?

Assuming the drive is OK. If you have both power and SATA data connected to the drive, resetting the BIOS sometimes fixes not recognized devices.  But, before you do that note any BIOS customization you have done so you can restore that as a reset will clear any user customization.

With the PC powered off, open the case and locate the CR2032 CMOS backup battery.  Remove the battery for at least 10 minutes and then reinstall observing battery polarity.  Considering the age of this model, it may be a good idea to replace the CR2032 with a new one.  Power on and check the BIOS to see if its recognized.
