I think you should be able to use passive...as long as your monitor accepts a digital signal through its DVI connector.
Passive is for digital output from your video card (HDMI or DP) going into a digital monitor input; DVI-D or DVI-I.
If you're monitor doesn't accept a digital input into its DVI, then you will need a active cable to make the change from digital to analogue if you have DVI-A on your monitor.
Your monitor owners manual should tell you which input you have.

Dp++ was added with dp 1.3, the 2060 supports 1.4, so you are good. You can use either type.
