Aurora R5, GPU upgrade, #8
Hey everyone, I've been wanting to upgrade the GPU in my desktop for a while but I'm not sure what one to get, as currently I have a Nvidia Geforce GTX 950, CPU is Intel Core i5 6400 2.70 GHz, I was wanting to get a GTX 1650 Super but I'm not sure if it will fit and even if it does, I'm not sure if my PSU will be able to handle the power the GPU alone would drain, it would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me, Thanks!

Your processor is too weak for this graphic card.
Intel Core i5-6400 (Clock speed at 100%) with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (Clock speed at 100%) x1 will produce 21.15% of bottleneck. Everything over 10% is considered as bottleneck.
one good gpu to match your cpu would be 1050Ti, Graphic card and processor will work great together
Intel Core i5-6400 (Clock speed at 100%) with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (Clock speed at 100%) x1 will produce only 1.55% of bottleneck.
if you are able to upgrade the i5 sky lake 6th gen to i7-6700, then you would be able to use GTX 1650.
Graphic card and processor will work great together

@studz Do you have the 460w or 850w psu? Either one should handle 6400 + 1650 super, 1660ti even, but 850w would be ideal.

If you upgrade to i7-6700k which is the top sky lake cpu supported by R5 (unless bios mod to support Kaby lake),
Graphic card and processor will work great together

Upgrading to a K processor on an R5 would require several other upgrades; need to get the vrm heatsink, liquid cooling, and an 850w psu.

For some reason I thought default cooler for Aurora (and A51) is always AIO liquid cooler. Like 4790k vs 4790, the 6700k starts at 4.0Ghz without OC. The 1660 Ti Nvidia recommendation is 450W. But small print for this recommendation is “Recommendation is made based on PC configured with an Intel Core i7 3.2 GHz processor“. An 850W psu will be plenty to unleash OC power. Dell Chris M has listed generic VRM DP/N for 95W cpu of Aurora (6700k TDP is 95W). J46J2 Heatsink for 95w CPU, Aurora R5/R6/R7/R8/R9/R10
