Aurora R7, air cooled i7-8700, issues with throttling?

I have picked up a great deal at the outlet store. my only concern is that the CPU is air cooled. I have seen lots of reports online that an air cooled i7 8700 especially with the stock cooler will not work as intended and will refuse to boost.

I am using the system for gaming only.

i am interested in others experiences here.

also are there any known after market coolers that will fit the case

Turbo boost is marketing.

It NEVER happens when the CPU is being stressed.

It only happens in very short bursts when the CPU is idle and only using 1 core.

1. Agreed. A nice-new Intel-i7 really needs a Liquid-Cooler. Alienware normally uses Asetek-made LC .

2. A demanding application

3. Search forum

4. IMO, Alienware-Asetek (from Dell-Parts or eBay) is best. According to forum posts, some Corsair (Asetek clone) models also work .
