Aurora R7 - brand new pc - XINPUT1_3.dll error trying DOOM
I've not been able to find an answer to this problem so far. I have an Alienware Aurora R7, 1080ti GTX 11gb, 8700 cpu and 500gb nvme SSD, 2tb HDD, Windows 10 64 bit professional all good so far. Razer Chroma and NAga installed otherwise just external HDD - no other added hardware added.
Installed Steam, older games such as CSGO, HL2 run fine, newer games like 'DOOM' (2016) or 'Metro Redux' will not run. They (Doom & MEtro Redux) try to open and fail on 'Installing Direct X strep 1 of 1'. I think these games are DX 9 or 10, whereas looking in dxdiag this pc shows DX12 correctly installed (with no way of reinstalling it that I am aware of in W10).
Tried using the steam platform game launch parameters to lower the DX version and no luck. I thought it could be Kaspersky for a while and so gave DOOM Free reign and same result.
If I go to the Steam folder and run either DOOM (2016) or Metro Redux as Administrator it throws this error :
'The code execution cannot proceed because XINPUT1_3.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem. '
I have completely removed DOOM And reinstalled once more and the same result.
Wondering if anyone else has seen this issue or knows how to resolve ? Thanks for checking.

1. Nice config. I have similar Aurora-R6.
2. Good.
3. I can't test those Steam games. I have Doom-3, but not Doom-2016 . I have Metro-2033, but not Metro-Redux.
4. You tried the usual stuff. Maybe try uninstalling Razor and Naga and their drivers? It does say "xINPUT".
5. Good troubleshooting.

Well first ...
https://www.howtogeek.com/323523/why-does-every-pc-game-install-its-own-copy-of-directx/
You just let Steam install the game and let it overlay-install whatever version of Direct-X it wants. Sometimes, there is a old-file dependency that gets installed. While sometimes files get upgraded to a newer version, it will not over-write anything you need for newer games or newer versions of Direct-X.
Like Dot-Net, it all just works in parallel to each other.

I've uninstalled all RAZER software and tried reinstalling DOOM and same, tried the DX10 redist from D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Metro 2033 Redux\_CommonRedist\DirectX as admin & it fails to install. Tried later nvidia drivers & Bios update through Alienware update. Ensured Windows update is up to date etc.
I am thinking as this pc is 3 days old I might save the time spent on this by reloading the preload.
I suspect that somehow having the Chroma and naga connected during initial Windows 10 setup (even before installing custom software) might have somehow borked the DX 12 part of W10 64 bit Pro install at the beginning ?
I looked at the Recovery option but this seems to only reload Windows so other software (cyberlink blu ray player, MSOffice 365, Alienware custom stuff) doesn't seem to be included.
Does anyone know how to format C and reload the Preload operating system along with bundled software ? I am not looking for a MS W10 install only - I want to do this in a way that keeps the preloaded apps. Thanks for checking. If this doesn't work I will probably return the PC.

I prefer clean-installs myself ... Just install perfect Windows-10 64bit and minimal drivers.

1. Good try.
2. Would be good to know if it's software or hardware.

3. Possibly, something like this. Yeah, I like to do "First Time Windows Setups" with minimal peripherals connected and basic/supplied keyboard and mouse.

1. Free Dell version should be in Windows-Store. Otherwise, Dell will have to supply "Blu-Ray capable" version installer. In case of catastrophic failure, Dell should be able to provide a way to re-install any bundled software (even OEM versions).
2. You reinstall from microsoft.com or your existing Microsoft Account. You should have key.
3. Like what? Export/Save any Themes and pics you want to keep. Internet is full of Alienware wallpapers. You get Alienware Command Center from ftp.dell.com.

Thanks very much for the help. As the pc is just 3 days old I decided to restore the preload (Chroma and Naga disconnected). Spoke to Zdenko at Alienware support who was very helpful in how to fully restore the full factory preload (this resulted in c being automatically repartitioned).
After doing that and running all windows updates etc Then loading Steam and Doom the Doom install runs fine and it is now playing fine. Likewise the Metro games. I didn't want to take a chance during the 'Free to return' period that it could turn out to be an unstable system so its all looking good now. Thanks again !

Do you remember, roughly, how you did it? I personally have no want-or-need for it, but someone reading this later might want to do the same thing (restore to factory-fresh or "shipped" software config).

Hi,
It was Start->Run
'Recovery',
'Advanced options', (restarts PC to menu) and then 'restore preload', (or something like that) skip warnings about losing all data. In the end the D Drive (Sata2gb data) was left alone, the C drive was reformatted and reinstalled.
