Aurora R9, Samsung EVO SSD, not compatible?
Hello,
Tech support told me that Samsung 2.5" Solid State Drives are NOT compatible with Alienware R9 machines. Has anybody have any details about this. I purchased the Samsung 860 EVO 1 TB with my R9 to load games on that drive and I'm trying to get answers world wide of why this awesome machine doesnt support it. Thx for any info. on this matter.

Also, note that there is a difference between "validated" drives and compatible. Dell only validates the OEM drives that they sell stock with their system (these are not retail drives). That does not mean all of the other drive brands available on the retail market will not work, it only means that Dell has not tested them with the Aurora.

I’m using a Samsung 870 Evo 1tb with my R9 and installation was painless.

seems to me they were incorrect.
that 2.5"sata drive would work in any Desktop made. (for sure not the boot drive, you never told that)
works inside or even side in docking box USB.
why not just power off.
pull line cord, AC
then connect the drive with 2 cables.
power on
go to disk manager, see, it is there, see if you format it , then it will work.
millions have, 100s of millions have. more I guess.
you can even tie warp a SSD to any side chassis place and it runs, I even put them in OLD PCs with floppy drive guts ripped out. endless places to put it, in any REAL desktop. even in DVD spot even with DVD to HDD coverters cages, dirt cheap.a bracket.
have you looked inside yet?
find a place (plant it)
find a SATA port free, find a spare Sata cable connect that. (sata2 to SSD)
find the power cable sata 15 pins, to PSU, if none, then your PSU stinks.
connect that, and it works. every time.
the R9 has very large and odd hinged PSU.
the R9 has 2 hdd cages on bottom so one can only wonder , does it have power cable for 2 drives, sure.
does it have sata ports for 2, sure. why would it not, why not just look first. for ports and power.
on mobo and PSU.
photos of all parts inside are still rare. So I can not be more specific.
the big limits on may dells is PSU. and for sure lacking full cable sets. (they save copper and you lose) if the powercable is missing dell, may sell this, a custom cable just for R9.

You need to initialize your new SSD before you will be able to see it in windows. I have 3 Samsung drives in my Aurora. Zero issues.
