Buying advice for Aurora

Hi All,

After many years away I am rediscovered PC gaming.   I am currently using a oculus rift S for various games and also loving the new MSFS 2020.

My current PC is a Corsair 160 with an Intel core I9 9900K, 32 MB RAM (DDR-2666) and a GeForce RTX 2080Ti.  I can’t run MSFS at Ultra settings without the FPS dropping below 30, hence my question below.

I am looking at the latest Aurora’s with the 3000 series graphics card and the faster processor and wondering will I see a noticeable improvement in frame rate for MSFS 2020 for example?  Not looking to build a Rig.    Also is the Aurora liquid cooled for both the CPU and Graphics card?

thanks for any advice

Josh

Thanks for the comments all

I must admit I am surprised that the FPS is so low.  To clarify I am not playing MSFS 2020 in VR.   My screen is the samsung odyssey G9 49inch.

Here are my full specs.

Thanks again

CPU I9 9900K

geforce RTX 2080 Ti

2 x 16GB DDR4 2666 ram

Liquid cpu and you cooling
480GB M.2 NVMe SSD.  This is where MSFS2020 is installed
2TB 5400RPM HD
Z370 mini ITX motherboard

I think the issue here is MSFS on a VR headset. Have you tried the same game on say, 1440p monitor? If it is still dropping below 30fps, then you probably have a system setting issue. 2080 Ti is no slouch btw.

Wow 26 views and no-one has chimed in.

I find it weird that those specs wont run a game. I have two Rigs with similar specs. I am downloading the game right now to run test with it. I will be back in a few with my results...............

Till then can you run me your full specs. Like are you running old spinners or M2's bla bla bla

Personally, I think you already have a fine rig, the update to a new Aurora 11 would not be "noticeable" in my opinion.  I would wait until a 4000, or preferably 5000 series card was available for the most bang for my buck.

I have dual 2080 Supers in SLI with a i9 9900KS and after looking over review for 3000 series cards, I see the improvement, but it's not worth the money at this time for me.

Also, no problem getting CPU water cooling, but as of this date only some 2000 series cards are available from Alienware with AIO water cooling.  You would have add a water block to any 3000 series card, and good luck finding some space for the radiator in an Aurora case.

So perhaps you should just wait at least until a 3090 series is available with AIO water cooling; or better still, wait until Alienware builds a larger case for the Aurora line.

Hope this helps!

Yeah that's what I was saying. That rig shouldn't have a problem running that at all. Mine is installing now for testing. I have been wanting to try that game out and see what its all about any way.

@GTS81    As a new CRSR shareholder

Congratulations!!

. . . and by 'dinky winky' . . . I of course meant 'small form factor'.

It is an interesting concept case . . . from all I can tell based on photos, the air flow through both radiators (CPU & GPU) is completely dependent on that single top exhaust fan

@Josh Bear    Liquid cpu and you GPU cooling

Can you post some of your CPU and GPU temps while you are gaming. Even though that Corsair i160 includes "liquid cooling" . . . that is one dinky winky computer. I would be interested to know how well it cools a 95 watt processor and a 250 watt graphics card.  The 600 watt PSU may be a weak link in the system.

@Anonymous :

As a new CRSR shareholder (4 stocks ), I do have to oppose you calling the Corsair One a "dinky winky computer". It is state of the art and at least the AIO coolers are bigger than the Auroras'.

@Josh Bear / @Doghouse Reilly :

I have similar setup of 9900K and dual 2080 Super under SLI. All in a custom loop with 420 + 360 slim rads. Will see if I can get a copy of MSFS this weekend to see how it fares on a 27" 1440p 144Hz screen.

Thanks.  I will post my FPS and temps tomorrow.

ultra is the highest graphics settings and try take off from a big city like London Heathrow or JFK and see what happens to FPS then.

the Corsair has a overclock button in the bios you can press but to be honest not really seen it make a difference.

thanks for al the help.

Well that game took forever to download lol (111gb). It is a hefty game for graphics for sure. I didn't get to far into the game, I just went into practice mode because I do not know how to fly I think I crashed more then I flew

I made sure all settings were at max for what I could tell. Also not sure if other parts of the world will render harder.

Here is my FPS in a shot in the air. I was peaking at around 60.

My MHz was kind of low a lot not sure why that is. In other games she will spike over 1900

Ok that was slightly on the harder side for the GPU. I was dropping around 35 to 45 then finally once I figured out how to take off I was back to the 50 and 60's.

Not an easy game at all. It will take some time to learn all the controls. Looks like it might be a good past time when I am really bored and tired of killing people in COD lol.. I like Red Dead Redemption 2 for that though..............

Here is a one more heaver hitter game on graphics and my Rig plays a little more fair then MFS.

These are online play numbers to so FPS is lower then it should be.

Try the landing challenges from the menu. Starts you in the air and all you have to do is land it.

not as easy as it sounds.

I am using the game to chill as well. Great to set a route and then watch the scenery go by.  Some of the places are beautifully modelled and right now as close as most of us will get to it!

Hi

here are a coupe of photos.

This one is without the game running

This one is after about 40 mins of playing MSFS 2020.  I was getting really low frame rates of 20 to 30 FPS.  Note that the game had an update today ans this was my first time playing since the update.

Hence the question about would the Aurora deliver a better performance.  Thanks again for the help.

Hi

Just did a 5 min CPU stress test. The test started and immediately said The CPU Power throttled.

Here are a couple of photos. So is this what is causing my performance issues?
Thanks

Josh
