After crash, computer will not recognize video card

I have an Alienware Aurora R4 with an installed NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 video card. I was playing a game, Risen, when the display froze and showed a mass of graphical errors (a blue square pattern) across the screen. Upon restarting the computer I found that a similar graphical glitch is present (blue lines) even during boot up. After logging into WIndows the display is locked at 600x800, and the computer refuses to acknowledge that the GTX 660 is connected to the system at all. Graphical glitch remains at all times. I have made no changes to the hardware, and i find myself at a loss to explain why the video card is not registering as present. Hope someone here can give me a hand.

Okay, kind of an update.

Left my computer off for about 24 hours, and when I turned it back on, everything was normal. So yeah, I have no idea. Oh well, glad it seems to have fixed itself before I went and got a new video card.

Thanks anyway though.
