Alienware 15 with Graphics Amplifier(GTX 980 TI SC) - Abysmal frame rate on Fallout 4 and GTA 5(med-high 1080p)

I purchased the AGA along with the GTX 980 TI SC ACX 2.0 under the assumption that i would be able to play Fallout 4 on high/ultra in 1080p with flawless FPS on my AW 15. Unfortunately, it turns out to be a huge dissapointment as my built-in GTX 980m was outperforming the external GPU.. i mean what the *** is happening?! i am getting about 7-10 frames more from my internal gpu!

I've downloaded the latest mobile driver from NVIDIA and the new bios for AW15 but still, the problem persists. I don't know what to do now.. i need help from the Dell support team as this issue is just plain unacceptable.

My specs are: Alienware 15 / GTX 980m / i7-4720HQ / 16GB RAM / 256 GB SSD / Windows 10

Hi,

Please view this video and make sure you are properly connecting the amplifier and that you show the GTX 980 in Device Manager, under Display Adapters

Hi,

If possible, can you test the GTX 980 Ti with another computer to confirm if you have the same problem? Do you also get low FPS with the internal GPU on this system?

I tried playing The Witcher 3 with the AGA on ultra and it works perfectly but whenever i play Fallout 4, the frame rate is just unbearable.. if play fo4 on my internal gpu at ultra, i get atleast 50+ fps but on my AGA, i get like 35-40.I also happen to notice that the my external GPU is not being fully utilized and stays at 55% max usage.

I am waiting for Alienware Graphic Amplifier R2.

Current graphic amplifier is x4 PCIe Gen 3 data rates. That’s about 4GB/s. A standard GPU connection on a desktop is a full x16 Gen 3 connection, which carries about 16GB/s. That led to concerns over the bandwidth capability of the Amplifier and how much actual performance you give up by throttling the GPU.

Alternatives like Razer Core external GPU enclosure has thunderbolt 3, and its bandwidth is 5GB/s. Come on Alienware, time for a refresh.
