Alienware 17 r3 output

Trying to figure out if I can use the hdmi port to output to a higher resolution 2560 x 1600 Dell 3008WFP or 4k TV (Samsung JU7100). When I plug up the laptop only goes 1080p. Do I need to go into create a custom resolution or is something wrong or is this normal?

Hello Juben, 1080p is the maximum resolution you can get with HDMI port. If you would to have more you can use the thunderbolt, connecting an adapter from USB-C to Display port.

Thank you Sofia for the information, I am looking at adapters right now. I wanted to verify it doesn't matter if I use HDMI or Displayport on the other end as long as I use a thunderbolt port. Do you have a recommend adapter? Been on amazon and ebay. I looked on dell and typed in "type c usb and/or thunderbolt" and it points me to usb 2.0 stuff?

Hello Juben, actually it matters because the HDMI will not have more resolution than the 1080p. That is why we suggested to used the USB-C but with Display port. You can use the one is better for you, shouldn't be any issue with it.

So I would need something like this  http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Thunderbolt-Compatible-DisplayPort/dp/B00X4S5DKC/ref=sr_1_1?srs=13705622011&ie=UTF8&qid=1464283579&sr=8-1&keywords=cable+matters+usb+type+c+display++port in order to use my 2560x1600 resolution monitor?

My 4k TV I am sure only has hdmi ports so this won't work then http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Thunderbolt-Compatible-Adapter/dp/B00X4S5C7G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464283849&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+type+c+hdmi+cable+matters ?

I will probably order both but if you have a better one from dell or alienware I can order?
