Alienware 18- r9 m290x is giving me problems! please help!!

I have my Alienware 18 ( i7 4810mq, r9 m290x, 16gb ram, so on.) and my problem is that i did a fresh install of windows 7 professional and everything is working correctly but the graphics card. Everytime i install a driver ( ive installed many, including the dell one), on boot up, the screen goes black after the windows logo. The cards do show up in the bios as ATI gfx under the discrete graphics and also in device manager they show up as standard vga graphics adapter. If i install the driver and dont reset right away, it does then show the correct name in the device manager. im stuck and really would like to game again, so any help would be very appriciated. thank you!
