Alienware Driver Update!!!

Hi all,

I have an Alienware M17x with a GeForce GTX 460M GPU. I have version 267.xx but I need version 285.xx. Dell does not have this version on their site, and when I go to download the NVIDIA drivers of the NVIDIA site, the setup fails because it doesn't detect my video card and the setup fails.

I hear Dell will be updating all Alienware drivers on October 11, is that true? If not how else will I get my drivers up to date?

So many alienware users are having trouble with this issue.

Please Help

Thanks

Fonz

So the setup fails because autodetect on the NVIDIA site failed. Have you tried manually selecting the driver for your particular card and system and then tried running with that?

Yes. After I manually select the drivers and run the application, the setup itself says "Cannot find compatible hardware."

I tried to search for your exact mobility card and came up with this. Have you tried this one?

www.nvidia.com/.../notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-285.38-beta-driver.html

I assumed that you are running Win7 64bit though.

For Win7 32bit try:

www.nvidia.com/.../notebook-win7-winvista-285.38-beta-driver.html

Your card, Geforce GTX 460M, is listed under the Supported Products tab.

Sorry if I am repeating myself but I hope your issue is resolved soon!

I've been having the exact same issues you've had. I'm guessing you were trying to play the BF3 beta as well. If you use the drivers from nvidia, bf3 will crash constantly. So I've gone back to using the old dell drivers. I called alienware tech support and the guy told me that they were supposed to be releasing new drivers on the 11th, yet, I don't see them yet. So I don't know what deal is.

Let me clarify a few things too. The problems I'm referring to were new nvidia drivers not installing because they "Couldn't find compatible hardware." I talked to an nvidia tech support guy for a while and he told me that after the latest release of their drivers they stopped supporting alienware hardware. So the newest drivers you try and download from them wont work. He offered to put in an official request to continue supporting out hardware so we'll just have to wait and see. If you find the supposed new dell drivers let me know.

Is this something you can do for a gtx 260m as well for an m17x?

I didn't have a tab called "Device Instance ID" but I had one called "Device Instance Path" Same thing?

If it is, here you go.

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0618&SUBSYS_02A11028&REV_A2\4&2D368263&0&0060

I can help you with this but I need you to tell me your 460M's Device Instance ID which can be found by looking in the device manger under display adapters. click on your 460M then goto properties then to the details tab and select Device Instance Path should look like this... PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2572&SUBSYS_019D1028&REV_02\3&172E68DD&0&10

I'll mod the latest driver so you can install it and send you the driver by e-mail.

I can do it for any Nvidia GPU I just need the Device ID like you have listed. I'll go ahead and mod the latest driver, what is your e-mail so I can send it to you after I am done?

I'll explain how to do it after I can confirm that it works with Fryboth. What GPU are you using?

sajin how goes the drivers?

also called alienware today, they are aware of the issue for bf3 and said there will be new drivers by the end of October.  The guy also said there are beta drivers available but i never asked him where.

The driver worked for Fryboth but he seems to be having some system instability issues with his system that is not related to the modded driver. If you would like to try out the modded driver yourself I will need your Device Instance Path for your GT 335M.
