Alienware M17X-R3 on Alienware AW2310 Monitor giving me strange problem after only 5-months (half-screen-BLACK)

I've been having a strange problem with my setup that has aprox only 5-months of actual use on it.

So far this problem has come up two times, and I am starting to worry and wonder if its the computer or the monitor.

I power up the laptop, turn on the monitor that is hooked up via HDMI, running desktop 1920x1080,60HZ.

The AW2310 Monitor is half black (the left side of the monitor is black as if my desktop is cut directly in half.

If I power off the monitor and turn it back on the problem is gone.

The problem is NOT RANDOM, and seems to happen when you first bootup whether its a cold boot, or just a restart from within windows.

When gaming everthing seems fine, the left side of the screen is fine.

Is there something going on with the monitor or the laptop?  Please any advice would be great.
