Alienware R5 - Thunderbolt 3 expansion.
Are there any recommendations as to upgrading to thunderbolt 3 via a expansion Card?
Will the system be able to support the full bandwidth of thunderbolt 3?

Hi,
Send me a private message with the service tag so I can escalate this with engineering and get back to you.

Hi,
I'm new here and have the same question for my new Aurora R5 (i7 6700) as I would like to use my UA Audio Apollo Twin Thunderbolt. Can anyone tell me the motherboard compatibility with PCIe TB3 cards?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Thanks for the quick response!
That's what I was afraid of on the Thunderbolt compatibility.
Thanks again,
Jim

Nice peripheral gear.
IIRC, sadly ... no, I'm afraid not:
Need some help trouble shooting usb-c issue with 17-r4
Not on Aurora R5 or R6 ever. No Thunderbolt-3 on those ever (motherboard interface is missing).
Not sure about Area51 R2/R3/R4 desktops
Yes on Alienware Laptops: 17-R4, 15-R3

This is my exact need. I want to use my Aurora for music production with my Apollo Twin MKii Thunderbolt. Is there no possible way?

Hi Osritmos,
No, there is no way other than changing out the motherboard to one which
includes Thunderbolt protocol. I checked my board on a new R5 and the
connection does not exist so I personally ended up switching away from the
UA interface as they are not cross-platform compatible like most of the
other interfaces out there.
I do see that several of the Alienware laptops have the Thunderbolt over
USB-C protocal if that helps.
Best of luck.
