Alienware X51 R2 - psu replacement
On the 2014 triad case with the 850watt psu will a standard atx psu work as a replacement? Will the pins match up on the motherboard ? Or will I need a conversion or extension cable for pin matchup between aftermarket psu and oem motherboard ?

Hi,
We do not support that configuration. Therefore, I cannot confirm if it will work as a replacement. The highest PSU that we support for the Alienware X51 R2 is 330W. You could also try posting this on the Notebook Review and Alienware Arena forums for assistance.

I mis-quoted the wrong Alienware..
I meant this version here:
Machine name: DESKTOP-LI9T11V
System Manufacturer: Alienware
System Model: Alienware Area-51 R2
BIOS: A03
Is the PSU on the Area-51 R2 a normal ATX psu ? its not proprietary>> ? in other words can I just go buy a name brand high end 1000 watt psu and plug it in to my motherboard .. ? is it a 24 pin psu?

Hi,
This system supports an 850W and a 1.5kW PSU. Some users have tried 3rd party manufacturer PSUs, I found this thread which may be helpful.
