Aurora bios flashing woes with 6-core cpu

I have an Aurora system with i7 980x cpu. Last night, while exprimenting with an older bios, the system failed to boot after flashing. I took out the cmos battery, and reset the cmos jumpers, to no avail. After getting on line with another computer and going through descriptions on all Aurora bios versions from Dell site, I think the following is the most likely possibility: the bios verion A04 that I flashed didn't have support for 6-core cpu like 980x.

Has this happened to you? Would putting in a 4-core i7 cpu resolve the problem, whereby one can boot up and get into windows and reflash with a bios that supports 6-core cpu?
