Can Alienware Aurora support SATA 6Gb/s ???

My current hard drive is my bottle neck.

I was wondering if my Aurora can handle the new Barracuda XT hard drives from Seagate 2TB, 7200 RPM desktop drive with 64MB cache and SATA interface - SATA 6G.

I7-930, 2.8,

Hard Drive, 1.5TB, S2, 7.2K BRINKS-XLOB

6G 1333, 128X64, 8, 240, 2RX8

2 - ATI Radeon 5670 X-fired

I'm pretty sure they are backwards compatible with Sata-II-300 which is the max. speed of the Aurora controller. I kinda doubt a spinning drive can saturate a Sata-II-300, and if it can, it can't be much more.

I you want speed, you might want to think about getting a SSD. Use it for your OS Boot drive, and use your current 1.5Tb for storage.

It can handle the Barracuda XT afaik but you won't be abled to use it with the 6G speed because the X58 (ICH10R) supports only 3G.

What you can do if you want to is buying an ASUS U3S6. I've got one in my Aurora ALX, runs perfect.

Unfortunately it has to run in a PCI-E x4 port.

I'm running it in the second PCI-E x16 port.

You'd have to take one 5670 out in order t ouse this controller card.

Thanks it looks like I will have to live with this.

I get a windows score of 7 or above in everything but the hard drive it is a 5.6

I was just trying to find away to get the hard drive score at 7 or higher.

 think I will try the  Samsung SSD 256 GB 220 MB/s 200 MB/s 2.5-inch MLC SATA 3.0 Gb/s

for the boot/OS drive and upgrade to the 2TB Barracuda XT for storage.

Hi, I found an ASUS U3S6.  Question, did you have to do anything special to disable the on board controller? Or set up the BIOS?

Don't Bother with it. You wont notice the difference with that drive in real world usage.
