Delays...
So i ordered my area-51 on oct 23, prpopsed delivery date of 11/30 ( 5 weeks). delay 1, no email no phone call... it was delayed 1 week 12/7. I called and was given no reason or appology as to why it takes 6 weeks to build a cookie cutter computer. i had no upgraded parts. i only added a monitor and the WoW install. Delay 2 no email, no phone call delayed to 12/14. (happened today) I called and complained, they "expedited my order" and still gave me no reason why it takes 7 weeks to build a computer. I would think that Dell/Alienware would WANT my $2,500, and if it gets delayed again ill take my money to HP/VooDoo. Just had to get that out there.

Its the holiday season, and there are bound to be screw ups (like any other company).
However this is what Dell has to say about ship dates:
"As a mail order rule company we can only provide the estimated ship date only."
So there are quite a few will get there system without any issues, however the more popular the components of the system, the least likely you will get it on time.

NO I don't, but I'm just trying to see what the issue is with certain hardware configurations. On the other hand I would love to work for Dell, and help out more.

It's a cookie-cutter area-51 nothing changed on the computer. I just added a monitor, keyboard and mouse, and the WoW pre-install. Thats why I'm getting SO frustrated, I didn't change ANYTHING about the computer. And do you work for Dell?

I had similiar luck with my Aurora order, so I'm not sure what's causing the delays. I placed it on 11/29 and as of 12/4, it was showing as shipped. Standard upgrades in the memory and hard drive space, as well as ATI HD Radeon 5870 and SoundBlaster Titanium cards. I offer this only as consolation for those who just placed (or are thinking of placing an order), and are nervous of delays.
I did order through a corporate employee purchase program. Not sure if there are contractual obligations associated with those programs which assist in faster turnaround times.[

I posted in the other thread, but going to add it here also. 3 MONTHS to build this system: Ordered November 7th, forecasted for
December 9th, reforecasted to January 19th. So much for that XMAS present. What is even worse is that their customer service
has absolultely no idea why the system is delayed, and can't give me any firm date.

With the exception of your memory upgrade (I went for 9gb) and the TactX offer you received, my order was the EXACT same and shipped after 5 days. Very odd.

Its hard to say at this point what it could be. Do new orders come before exchange orders? I checked with customer care on my box, and according to them no part has issues and nothing is on back order and I should get it soon (I don't even have a estimated shipping date).
We will soon see I guess...

Its not even a memory upgrade, only 6 GB (sorry - poor formating on my part - that 1 in front is the quantity). If they could
tell me it is the TactX keyboard that is the reason the system is being delayed, I would drop it in a heartbeat.

The thing is, people need to be informed when purchasing that it could take them 3 months to build a color coded computer, but NOTHING of the sort is said when purchasing or on Dell's site. It isn't even rational to think it could take longer to do this than some wars have lasted. Those who may have been purchasing Christmas gifts, or in my case, am moving and need the computer before the Uhaul arrives and the chaos begins, are now in big trouble when they COULD have ordered from a company who is competent. The rep I spoke to said nothing was backordered, there were no problems, and suggested I speak to the person assigned to my case (who has not responded to my emails). If there are no delays, and my order was "expedited" (right), what is the holdup?
