TLDR: Card doesn't work natively in the amplifier
I should have learned my lesson with the 980Ti but these nice cards are so tempting.....
It appears that Dell and Nvidia need to get together again (just like the 980Ti) to get the hardware Ids into a future driver release. Hopefully it doesn't take months like the last time.
The card WILL work in the amp if you install the desktop drivers (368.25) but that kind of defeats the purpose of being able to be mobile as you will have to reinstall the mobile drivers once you are done with the amplifier. It's a workaround for now, just hoping this is resolved quicker than the last major card release.
Hello there, Im a fellow alienware 15 r2 owner with graphic amplifier and gtx 1080, i read what you went through to make the graphic card work, and im glad it worked with you. Mine is working too on latest nvidia desktop driver 368.39 and its very fast performer . However I noticed that gpu z is reading the pci express speed as 3.0 x 2 instead of pci express 3.0 x4 which is slower than alienware advertised for the link speed. if it is not a lot to ask ,Kindly check for me your alienware 15 connection speed with the graphic amplifier using gpuz and if you can get back to me i will be thankfull, best regards,
I have a 15r2 with 970m, it works perfect with an Asus 1080fe in graphic amplifier, the gtx driver is 368.81 notebook.
But link with the same graphic card, an alphaR2 sometimes crashed with bluescreen code 124, I'm very confusion about this problem.
