I am needing advice on upgrading my PSU for my Alienware X51
I am needing advice on upgrading my PSU
Hello Dell/Alienware Community
I have quite a few questions needing answered and was attempting a discussion over on linustechtips but have given up due to extremely poor help over there :(
I have a Alienware X51 (yes i know lol ) I was sort of forced to sell my previous gaming rig due to moving into a smaller 1 bedroom flat etc etc
Anyways...I wanna upgrade my graphics card soon enough but i understand in order to run a decent card i will need a more powerful power supply,
heres my System specs
Gaming Rig Setup
Alienware X51
Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit
Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz Overclock 3.9GHz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 TI 2GB
16GB DDR3 RAM
2TB Barracuda HDD
Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader
Alienware OptX AW2310 23" 1080p 3D Monitor
I was hoping to upgrade to the newly released Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 TI 3GB
from my understanding i currently have a 330w power supply and i am looking to find out if its definitely a no go what power supply can i upgrade to?
I know the external power brick is 330w but don't know if theres also one on the inside of the machine :S
guess i have wondered would it be possible to upgrade to a massive 500-950w power supply and have it sit at the side of the system,
I hope i can get some good feedback and look forward to hear from you all

Hi
Based on the tech specs of your system that i got from www.support.dell.com
Maximum PSU that your computer can handle is 330W
In fact the Video Card that your using right now is the maximum graphics card you can put in to the motherboard of your system

by using a 800w power supply would this help if i were to soon enough upgrade to a newer graphics card?
