Is the Nvidia GTX 980 Ti compatible with my Alienware Area 51 R2?

Are there any issues with swapping my GTX 980 card with a 980 TI card?  I am looking at only one card and not a SLI configuration.  Are there any issues with card size or a need for special driver updates? Thanks.

It should work, but the performance difference is marginal compared to your current card.  IMHO, not worth the cost when you already have a 980.

Thanks.  bur I just want confirmation from Dell or someone that uses the card that it is compatible.

I have a 980TI and before, had a 980 GTX (in the graphics amp for an alienware 15). You should have no problems just get the most current driver on nvidia's site since you are going form a 980 to the Ti.

Thanks for the info concerning the graphics amplifier but I would feel more at ease if someone actually used the card in the Area 51 R2.  I've been reading that the card runs hotter so I'm wondering if there will be any issues.

It's a reference model right now. Of course it's going to run hotter since all cards are the same with different branding and no "extra" cooling like some cards have. The worst issue you are going to have is it runs a little warm (which is not going to cause any issues). You are worrying too much over nothing. It will work and you will be fine.

Ask yourself sir, why wouldn't it work?

You can also ask yourself while using two Titans in SLI mode don't work. It should but it doesn't. I just wanted some kind of confirmation but all is silent here.

Thanks for the info!  You seem to be getting great temps.  Which version of the 980 Ti did you buy?  Also.  how is the noise level?

Just an FYI, Dell will normally not comment on if Card A or Card B will work in their systems unless they have actually 'certified' it to do so.  Normally when they make a system series, they only certify a range of cards and anything made after that is up in the air.

noise levels are no different from stock 980s!

as for temps i always run the PCI fan @ 50% yes ok little of extra noise but no big deal when gaming, i also think the spacing between the cards helps alot.

i am running ASUS 980Ti reference design cards.

will up load some pics shortly but cards dont show alot as they look like just normal 980s.

As for Titan X's i just couldnt get them to work ( even with new bios / would work as a single card thou ) so i SLI'd them in my WC rig using a Rampage Extreme V

Thanks for all the info.  If I buy a 980 Ti.  It will be just one but if you had no problems with 3.  I feel assured.  I read about thr Sli issue with the titan cards.  It is stil not resolved.

I have the GA with Gtx 980ti and my 17r2  and can´t get it to amplify my graphics on my laptop. The games lag and some times wont even work.  specially Witcher 3.

Dell says the driver is not compatible with the gtx 980Ti yet. If you have a solution I´ll appreciate the help.

I tried a simple swap. Removed the 980 that came with my Area 51 R2, and put an MSI 980ti (reference), and had no luck at all. The Nvidia GeForce Experience drivers wouldn't install, and the screen kept going black and coming back.

So I took it out, went back to the 980, reinstalled the Nvidia drivers (2.9x by the way), and it was all nice and dandy.

At this point, I am going to take the 980ti back and consider a 2nd 980 reference for SLI, or just save the cash. the 980 seems to work just fine, but was disappointed that my old Dell Precision T7500 had no issues with the 980ti (other than not realizing its full power), compared to my new rig which was supposed to be super-awesome. :-(
