M15x CD drive not reading
Windows 7 Home Premium
Service Pack 1
Alienware M15x 64bit
DVD/CD-ROM Drives:
ELBY CLONEDRIVE SCSI CdRom Device
FSVQFWN Z09M70XQVW SCSI CdRom Device
Optiarc DVD+-RW AD-7640S
STS 45UNSLA7KXE SCSI CdRom Device
Drive whirs and then stops, doesn't read or even recognize that a disc is in the drive.
This has been a persistent issue for over a year, but I haven't had a need of a CD drive. I figure it's about time to fix it since I'll be going back to school.
Fixes tried:
Microsoft FixIt
Updating drivers for each drive
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

This occurs when inserting any of the Dell branded CDs (Driver, Resource, etc) ? I need some information to investigate this. Send me the following via private message -

The Dell warranty expired on 4/14/11. Call Dell Spare Parts 1-800-357-3355 and ask for part number TR555 (8X DVD+/-RW optical disc drive) for prices and availability. Or simply search the web for the part number.
