M17xR2 Drivers?

Hey,

I run Battlefeild 3 at 60 Fps, though during the game I will suddenly receive a frame rate drop to about 20-25 fps for about 10 seconds, it will then switch back to the normal 60 Fps as if nothing was ever wrong. It repeats this throughout my game play.

I have played around with AMD Drivers making sure to download the mobility versions, be it from 10.9 Cap 4 to 11.09, 11.10, and 11.11! I still cannot fix the problem, any suggestions or has anyone had this issue?

Thanks

sounds like the video cards are throttling due to overheating. try upping the fans using this guide... www.alienwarearena.com/.../-guide-unofficial-aw-fan-control-

You need to contact dell and ask them to send a tech out to reapply the thermal paste on your GPU's or you could do it yourself by following a video on youtube called Alienware M17x R1/R2 Complete Disassembly Tutorial (Part 1 of 4) make sure to watch all 4 parts.

Did you ever get this problem solved?  I'm encountering similar issues with mine but I have the nVidia GTX 580.  Drivers and BIOS are both updated.  Mid-game in both Battlefield 3 and Skyrim my fps will drop dramatically.

I know this is an old thread, but if you are reading this anyway...  Try running in battery mode only (change your power settings to "high performance". If you get better FPS this way, it means that your AC Adapter is on its way to hardware heaven. Try to change the AC, borrow from a friend first if you are not confident, otherwise if money is not an issue, just buy a new one
