M18x 2 beep no ram detected

hi i have my m18x eror code i know it means no ram is detected yet i havent changed anything in the ram i noticed today when i went to get the service tag on it i heard something move inside does the m18x have any moving parts inside that would cause that noise or is it possiable my ram card became lose?

There should be nothing moving around inside the system - unplug the system, remove the battery and check on the memory module(s).

As long as you remove the battery and unplug the system before starting, you should be fine.  If you're not comfortable removing the keyboard, call Dell for repair on that one.

Two of the modules are located under the base cover (easily removed).  The others are under the keyboard (not so easy).  Check the easily accessed ones, first.

so there is no way this could fry the laptop checking these though right?

i dont have a warrenty and i have no grounding plug would you advise it still i havent messed with laptops to much lately. will i need to fully remove the bottom case or just the battery case?

Hi Brian376,

As rightly said by ejn63, unplug the AC Adapter and disconnect the battery from the laptop. Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds. This will remove the residual power after which it is safe to remove/reseat the memory.
