Multiple monitors for Alienware 17 R3?
Previous gen had HDMI and DisplayPort. This new one has HDMI and USB-C. Can I just buy any USB-C to Mini DisplayPort dongle like this one and it should work?

Here are all of the Alienware 17-R3 manuals. The HDMI is out only on the 17-R3 and 17-R2. Open the specifications PDF. The 17-R1 was both in and out.

Hi Kralcifer,
The Alienware 17x R3 and the Alienware 17 (4632) both have HDMI and mini display ports on the left side of the system.
See the specifications - http://dell.to/1i4umyX

No mention of DisplayPort in the 17 R3 specs...

Hi Kralcifer,
Apologies. I guess I misread it earlier as 17x R3.
Yes indeed, the Alienware 17 R3 itself has only a HDMI port.
The Type-C USB to Mini-DisplayPort adapter should work fine.

So is the hdmi port output only? Or is it input as well? I am trying to use my laptop as a monitor

Hi I just received my new R17-3, and it does have a single HDMI output on the back. I have a separate new monitor, and when I plug it in it only shows the same as the laptop screen. When I go to multiple monitors settings, it doesn't allow me to setup or manage multiple monitors. The monitor is a Dell SE2417HG. What am I missing here?
