.NET Framework preventing Shutdown
Hello,
Recently I have been encountering a problem where when I tried shutting down my laptop, it shows the shutting down screen, and then shows me the message saying that .NET Framework app is preventing Windows from shutting down. It happens every time when I tried to shut down or restart the laptop. Is there a problem with my laptop? Using an Alienware M14x R2 with a Windows 8 64-bit system.

Yes, I have downloaded and installed the latest 4.5 version, and was told that since I already had it, I cannot install it. Then I went and downloaded the 4.5.1 RC and installed that, but still, I am unable to shutdown my laptop.

I will recommend you to uninstall the command center, update BIOS and then reinstall the command center again.

Seems like the problem is gone now. All it took was a defrag and a disk cleanup. I'm not sure if this will happen again, but yeah, it's not giving me any problems for now. Thanks for the help. =)

I'm having the same problem again. Are you suggesting that I reinstall the Command Center using the resource dvd that came with my laptop? And also, how do you update the BIOS? Thanks.

It will be better if you download the one in the dell website , and on this link you will be able so check how to update the BIOS.

A software similar to IOLO System Mechanic can clean out bad com references and registry errors that may cause problems.
You can also try this.
Run Command Prompt as administrator. At the prompt type in, sfc/scannow And then hit enter.

Excluding C:\Program Files\Alienware [from the Microsoft Security Essentials scan] fixes the symptoms. The problem however remains of why MSE is hanging while scanning files in this directory. Untill this is addressed, this directory will be a great place for viruses.
Dell support: Why is MSE hanging while scanning files in the Alienware directory? Can you provide a fix?

Hi,
I tried this step, but its still the same story for me. I cant be reinstalling windows because I just did that a few days back and its not possible as all my computer programs cannot be transferred...please help!!!

So, I have too had this issue and have been doing some heavy research on the matter.
Before I continue I want you to know I have ...
1. Reformatted 4 times.
2. Reinstalled entire system 4 times.
3. Contacted Alien-Ware Support 13 times.
4. Remote connected to tier 3 support 3 times.
5. Gathered a concrete supervisor for dell support's email and am keeping in contact with him through email.
6. Defragged several times
7. uninstalled and reinstalled several times.
8. I've also set up a technician call to come out for faulty hardware twice.
9. replaced the hard drive to a solid state 512gb hdd
10. uninstalled and reformatted with latest bios updates with the help of the alienware enigineers.
I am beginning to think this is not a hardware or user issue. it seems to be an issue directly related to software and the people who haven't updated it since February of 2013
