Ultra DMA crc errors...

Hello again,

Well after running alienware autopsy a few times the report keeps showing the factory ssd has ultra dma crc errors that keep going up, reading is 117 now.  I haven't even installed anything on this system with the exception of critical and important windows updates and norton security.  I added an additional 500 GB samsung ssd and it shows no errors.  The errors on the original drive have just continued to go up, I think there were 8 after the second day of having it. I have the original factory drive as os and intended programs, second drive intended for data.   Here's the thing, machine is only 2 weeks old and I've read that it could be something as minor as a cable but I'm not so happy about this.  Add to the fact I got suckered into the Alien Respawn full addition at an additional $40 and it won't even write to the DVD's I'm just not sure if I should keep this $3600 machine.  Should I insist on a replacement and will that replacement be a refurb or should I just send it back and start over?  Any help/advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Malisa

Sorry to hear you have issues

Good chance it would be a refurb. My advice is to return and buy again or contact tech support and have the drives replaced. These things happen but they will make it right if you let them. Just get the drives or if it's the cable then the cable replaced. If they replace the system it may not be new.

Since I can't get Alienware support on the phone today I was thinking that maybe I'd switch the drive I purchased to the bay that the factory drive is in, move the factory to the other bay, switch the boot order and then monitor if the new drive begins to get errors.  Wouldn't this tell me if it's the drive or if its the connection on the bay?  I'm not real clear about where the cable is.  When I installed my second drive, I just plugged the plastic thingee into the drive and then plugged it into the bay. Is the cable y'all are referring to the connection that's on the drives or is it the place on the board it plugs in t?  Also if I do this and the switched drive begins accumulating errors will doing this mess up that drive for future use?  Another thing is when I do the Dell online pc check nothing shows errors, it's just on alienautopsy that it shows the errors.  Is there another program I can use that would be better in determining the errors?

Thanks again,

Malisa

Ok, got support on the phone after them running tests they determined it is indeed the cable.  As i track the dispatch for the new ssd i see that they're replacing my samsung p83 with SSDR,512,S3,7MM,MICRON,MONARCH SYSTEM.  I'm thinking this is a crucial ssd and looking at the benchmarks on the 2 drives I'm not jumping for joy.  The agent did assure me that the drive was new, not a refurb.  I still have a couple of weeks until my 30 days is up.  Should I just put it thru it's paces and see if it's a comprehable susbstitute.  Or should I have insisted on the samsung?

Thanks y'all!
