Will a i7 6700hq bottleneck a GTX 1080 via amplifier?

Title says it all. WIll a i7 6700hq bottleneck a GTX 1080 via amplifier. I plan on getting a 4k TV and using the GTX1080 as my graphics horsepower, but will the cpu allow me to get full potential of that card? Also with the gtx 970m not being used can I expect higher clocks from the i7 due to the fact that my alienware 17 is only cooling it and not both it and the gtx 970m?

With the 970m not being used, you have the overclocking options enabled in the BIOS. You can use that to increase the i7's clock.

There should be no bottleneck with these processors, but you could ask on NBR or AlienwareArena. There are many users there with Amplifiers that can give you an insight.

you are gonna have a great performance with that gpu but not as good as when its hooked up to a desktop i7.....

i highly doubt there are much difference. i7 6700hq performs about 75% of desktop 6700k. i7 6700hq is a quadcore cpu. the only bottleneck you will experience is the graphic amplifier itself. The cable itself carries data at x4 PCIe Gen 3 data rates. That’s about 4GB/s. For comparison, a standard GPU connection on a desktop is a full x16 Gen 3 connection, which carries about 16GB/s. That’s led to concerns over the bandwidth capability of the Amplifier and how much actual performance you give up by throttling the GPU.

i see a lot of cases, the alienware performs about 90% of desktop cpu. i love the fact that the alienware graphic amplifier performs better than the razer core thunderbolt3.
