X51 mobo upgrade possible??

Hello I just ordered a AW x51 (I7 Ivy Bridge, GTX 555) model for the design and intial specs and after further research was very disappointd in the actual parts that were used. To begin why not give the option to choose a better mobo than a H61 which does not have SATA 3 ports andPCI 3.0. I know the the answer has to do with profits that the manufacturer wants but given this a Alienware product I expected to atleast be able to choose an upgraded mobo. I also feel dell needs to go back to the original way they let the consumer custimize their products by letting them choose each part (cpu, HDD, memory, Video, etc) Well while I wait for the unit to arive I wanted to know if there is a possibility to actually upgrade the mobo. These seem very inexpensive about 100 to 130 to get SATA 3.0 and PCI 3.0 in a micro ATX board. Found a couple of different options on newegg but wanted to know if I can upgrade to : Newegg.com - Intel BOXDH77DF LGA 1155 Intel H77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard I know the face plate might be something I need to "dremmel" out of the case but would it fit? Has anyone upgraded their mobo yet? thanks in advance

Hello

I dont think so, clik on my files and you will see the  x51 MB it is the same size as the one you mentioned but things are no in the same place

Hopefully when the R2 comes out  you will be able to grab that from Dell or some other place easely

Thanks for the reply. I see that the sata ports and power pets are the right for the dell MB and on top for the intel h77.  I think extra cable can solve that.  The ports can be fixed by a dremmel to cut out the black plate and use the metal plate.  Can't tell if the CPU is in a different place?  Sorry for the noob questions just trying to figure out exactly why it won't work and if there are work arounds for the problem.  Is the CPU fan placement the issue?

I am sure  you can  find a work around,, for as long you can input x51 bios in there and the bios support those new functions

Just guessing  too  lol

Very interested in upgrading the mobo also.

Can we expect alienware to offer a new compatible motherboard soon to replace the current one?

Or is cutting the case our only option?

I was actually wondering the same thing for the past week, I came onto the forums today to ask the very same question only to find that you have beat me to it.

If we can get an official reply that would be amazing. I don't want to have to discard this system after a few years just because we can't fit a new cpu in it.

Sata 3 and PCI express 3 are still new to the scene. Most pc gamers are still on pcie 2 and sata 2. Im thinking next yr the x51 will be updated with a new MB, at that point we should be able to upgrade. Until then we have to stick to sata 2/pcie 2
