X51 upgrading so i want a EVGA 660 Ti (2 GB)
Well im getting a EVGA 660 Ti (2GB). I know i have to get a 330w Power supply but my question is will the rest of my pc be bottle necking the GPU? Here is my specs of my Gaming Rig -
CPU = 2nd Generation Intel Core i3-2120 (3M Cache, 3.3 GHz)
OS = Windows 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English
Monitor = Samsung SyncMaster S24B30B Res 1920x1080
Ram = 8GB3 Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz
HDD = 1TB SATA 3Gb/s (7,200RPM) 32MB Cache
Video card = Nvidia GeForce GT640 1GB GDDR5
CD = Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD±RW, CD-RW)
Keyboard = TT Challenger Pro
Wireless = DW1506 Wireless-N WLAN Half Mini-Card
Waranty = 1 Year Essential Support

Mouse = microsoft mouse
Headset = AfterGlow Pro
Also im wondering since ive never popped my Alienware open will the dual fan setup just blow hot air back into my pc becuase the card is a Signature2 version which has 2 fans if i put the card in would it make my PC more hot? Heres the card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130837&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-NA-_-NA&gclid=CI6DlvP72bQCFYp_QgodeWAAsQ
Please get back to me soon.

Hello Darkilator101,
According to engineering the highest video card supported by the X51 is the regular version of the GTX 660, this is in order to have a better system stability and proper air flow.
For more information about upgrades you can send us an e-mail to alienwareupgrades@dell.com please include your service tag, phone number and a brief description of your request, we can advice you with the available options.

you want to focus on a "reference design" 660 since yes that dual fan setup will just dump hot air into the chassis. Reference design cards use a blower model that channels and exhausts hot air out the back of the system.

Would my current set up bottle necking the GPU?

I've tried using that card. It didn't fit without removing the PCIe fan on the front of the PC. I also had trouble getting the power cables to connect. I don't even think you could get in one minute of gaming- the fans are going to be blowing 1 cm away from hot metal, and the system will shut down to stop damage.

I don't think your system would bottleneck the GPU, but you will need the 330W PSU available from www.dell.com/parts to power the GTX660TI. Again you would want to use a reference model of the 660 Ti and not the dual fan versions.

A reference GTX660 will fit without removing items or being too cramped.
Other versions that are longer could have the issues you are describing. Some people have even fit reference GTX670 cards into X51.

agreed the two fan version is not recommended.
