experiencing poor gaming performance with m15x (i7Q820, gtx260m, 4gbRam, A09)

Hello Alienware forum,
i hope you can help me with this issue.

I noticed a decreasing performance on my m15x in games and 3d applications
(with AC pluged in, stealthmode turned off, energy managment / nvidia-settings set to max performance).

ModelNr: m15x-4830 i7-Q820, 4gb of RAM, GTX260m, 500GB HDD  acquired Sep 2010

After a google search i updated the bios to A09 (previously A01)
and installed the dell drivers for the graphics-card.
As a result most games refused to start (application not responding).

To make sure there are no driver-conflicts, i formated the harddrive and installed a new Win7 pro 64bit,
then installed all the drivers from the dell-website.

But still, abysmal performance (Fraps):
Witcher 2: lowest settings @ 1920x1080: 15 fps average
Metro 33: medium settings @ 1920x1080: 22 fps average

GPU temperatures are 50-60° idle and go up to 80° under load.

I am really helpless here and deeply grateful for any suggestion.

u might wanna turn down your res from 1920 to 1600 or 1366 to get better frames with thos games

the higher the res on games the less FPS u get do to render stuff

Thank you for your quick reply ArcticGamez,

i wish changing the resolution would solve my problem.

Just played Witcher 2 on lowest settings @ 1280 x 720 and it is still unplayable.

According to fraps i get an average of 28 fps (min 17 / max 45), but it looks like a slideshow.

The strange thing is that i played Witcher 2 shortly after its release and it ran okay on medium to high settings @ 1080p.

i played bf3 on 20-25 fps before i got my m14x was still playable at 1366 on my desktop i had running the GT 430

but ya might need to update some drivers on your end or u might have to replace your graphic chipset with a better one cuz im looking at the specs for the GT555m and your GTX260 and the GT555m has better overall specs then your GTX250

so you can compare them your self heres the links

The drivers from the offical Dell-website are recommended by Dell,

but seems like i have to try nvidia drivers,

although i am not so sure that will fix the problem since i have tried nvidia drivers before without any luck.

No doubt the gt555m delivers more gaming performance than the gt260m.

But the point is, that i don´t have any gaming performance at all.

It's best to update the driver.  there are plenty of video driver forums that talk about how to upgrade the driver from the dell driver to NVIDIA's latest.  Do a search within this site and you'll find plenty.  One of them should help you.  Ones that I always use are the latest beta drivers from the NVIDIA site.  They work for me.  If you have not tried them, you should.

But first, do a system restore in the event you don't like the outcome.  That way you can go back to what you had.
