m.2 drives for Alienware 17 R2 2015 edition

hi,

Thinking of getting replacing the 1tb drive that mine came with for a m.2 or have them working at the same time. What m.2 drives do you guys have installed that are confirmed working? I understand Crucial makes one as well as Samsung and the drives must be 2280/sata.

There are 4 m.2 SSD slots. Just make sure they are SATA based and NOT PCIe based. Make sure they are 22 x 80 x 2.4mm in size. the 128GB option from Dell is the Samsung PM851 m.2, but Crucial MX200 m.2's are confirmed working as well as Intel 530's. Just make sure they are 22 x 80 x 2.4mm in size, or what they call Type 2280..

I think if you just want to add m.2 ssd, you can just add it, it should have empty slot for m.2

LordZog is correct about the Crucial and Intel being confirmed, I've seen these coming up also (but have not been confirmed here):

SAMSUNG 850 EVO MZ-N5E120BW M.2 120GB SATA III Internal SSD Single Unit Version

SAMSUNG 850 EVO MZ-N5E250BW M.2 250GB SATA III Internal SSD Single Unit Version

SAMSUNG 850 EVO MZ-N5E500BW M.2 500GB SATA III Internal SSD Single Unit Version

Looks like they will be coming out around 4/8/15

Again the samsung have not been confirmed, but I'm assuming they will work. These are SATA based.

No one has confirmed it DOES NOT have PCIe x4, but it def. supports SATA III is what we know.
