Alienware 17 R3 Won't Recognize Ram Upgrade (8GB to 16GB)
I asked this question in the Dell forum, but apparently that was the wrong forum. I tried to see if the topic was moved, or even find the original topic, but I couldn't. I didn't get any notification if my topic was deleted or moved, but...hopefully I'm posting it correctly this time, as I can't find the original anywhere!
That said, I purchased an Alienware 17 R3 with tag ; it came with 8GB of RAM as two 4GB sticks. I recently wanted to updated it. I purchased two 8GB sticks of RAM that I heard were compatible (see attachment). For some reason, my laptop will read only one of the 8GB sticks. I have verified that both sticks are working by leaving only one of them in at a time. I have also verified that both sockets are working correctly by leaving only one of the sticks of RAM in it at a time.
What on earth is going on here? I'd greatly appreciate any help. Please and thank you!

Hi Justin321,
Crucial is has not been validated therefore we can not confirm functionality.
But you can try a BIOS update.

That Crucial Micron memory is not on our list?
Hynix HMA41GS6AFR8N-TF
Kingston KTD3KX-HYA
Kingston KTD3KX-MIB
Micron MTA16ATF1G64HZ-2G1A2
Micron MTA16ATF1G64HZ-2G1B1
Samsung M471A1G43DB0-CPB
Samsung M471A1G43DB0-CPB
Samsung M471A1G43EB1-CPB
We know that the 17-R3 supports 16GB using our OEM memory, part TD3KX =
(8GB, 2133MHz, DDR4, 1Gx64, 8K, 2RX8, Dual Rank, Unbuffered, 1.2V, Non-Error Correction)
Perhaps return the Crucial ram and purchase two of these.

Gotcha; but why will my computer read one of the 8GB sticks if it isn't supported? Wouldn't it just not read any of them at all?

I already updated the BIOS from 1.1 to 1.3. Thanks for the suggestion, though!
