17 R5, BIOS v.1.8.1 Keyboard backlight setting missing

Hello @Alienware-Joe and @Alienware - Rodrigo our 17 R5 lights do not work. Reddit (Here) says go into 17 R5 BIOS and look to see what the keyboard backlight is set to. But our 17 R5 BIOS v.1.8.1 does not have a keyboard backlight setting. Is there a solution to this problem. Kind regards.

Does anyone have a 17 R5 with BIOS v1.8.1 and have a look to see if their settings include keyboard backlight?

@DELL-Chris M  is there a lookup for BIOS v1.8.1 that says what settings are included on every page?

Nope. The 2018 released 17 R5 training page only shows the original BIOS pictures. DELL-Chris M

F2 during start-up reveals our BIOS v1.8.1 is Aptio Setup Utility - American Megatrends, Inc. Guess that BIOS content responds to detected 17 R5 hardware. All our laptop is dark despite having all of the AlienFX lights preinstalled. Which BIOS settings will switch all the AlienFX Lights on?

If it never was mentioned how to do it inside of the BIOS like that guy said on reddit, he probably didn’t know either.

Our Dell Product Support's service tag says install Alienware 17 R5 System BIOS v1.8.1 whose installation also says update AWCC to v5.1.18 or newer to make sure AlienFX working normally. BIOS page Main says v1.8.1 has been installed. No installation errors were reported. Device Manager says all devices are working properly. SupportAssist says System Board hardware test is pass. All of the AWCC Suite v5.2 variations refuse to install the AlienFX 2.0 applications and our laptop is dark. Is there a solution to this problem?

BIOS v1.8.1 must have AWCC v5.1.18 or newer.jpg

It’s hardware related. But I think not, because if it was the entire board would’ve been faulty so....

It must be a software issue so try reinstalling windows 10 entirely.

Windows 10 Professional x64 was updated to Version 2004 build 19041.388 on 22 June 2020 and all Windows Updates have been installed. Have installed AWCC Suite v5.1.18 but FX tab does not work. Folder: Program Files > Alienware > Alienware Command Center has 67 files, but the AlienFX 1.0 and/or AlienFX 2.0 applications have not been installed (again). Is there a solution that can be deployed?

Reformat the entire drive and reinstall windows, then install all the drivers that go to your computer.

AWCC v5.1.18 Interface Settings allow selection of UI Highlight Colour to Fixed = Blue. Toggle FN + F12 ALIENFX does not switch on any of the lights. The UI Highlight Colour to Fixed = Blue does not save (unlike Particle Effects = Off). This persistent AlienFX fault is most perplexing.

Hello Dell EMC Community Team, thank you for asking if a solution has been posted. We thank @DELL-Chris M for the update inserted into the second message. This thread was posted a week ago on the 12 July 2020 and there has been no response from Alienware-Joe , Alienware-Rodrigo or any Alienware 17 R5 users. Not sure when this Dell Community post will get a solution. Kind regards.
