Alienware R5 17 LCD upgrade

Yes, I know Dell does not support it, but here I am, trying it anyway.  I got a 4K LCD that matches my laptop, and 2 different versions of the 40 pin cable.  The 0WTNR3 cable option, when I power it on, takes a while, then does a cute little jingle, then 3 beeps, then 2 beeps, then 1 beep, and starts over.  The 2PVJC option does this immediately, just as if I did not connect a display at all.  I have talked to people who have done similar things on the R4.  The company that sold me the cable and the other company that sold me the display said they are the correct items for my particular laptop.  Has anybody successfully done this upgrade?

Hi. I'm considering doing the same upgrade to my R5. Did you manage to get yours to work? I have found a lot of information about the R4, but not so much on the R5. Did you find any useful tutorials? Thanks!!
