Area-51m R2, no GPU upgrade, AGA ended
Ok I bought the Alienware Area-51m R2. I payed $4600.00 I maxed out almost every option except for the ram (32gb of ram is good for me for now). But I bought this as a Desktop replacement because I wanted an upgradeable laptop. And I love it. It’s a good pc, I can get my work done, and play all my games at max setting. I even got the AGA (Alienware Graphics Amplifier) and bought a 3rd party 2080 Ti to put in it. I got the matching RGB keyboard and mouse and even got a 32" Alienware monitor. So I have a desktop and laptop all in one unit. Now imagine my surprise after spending almost $7000.00 on all this nice hardware when I found out that this laptop will not be able to upgrade its GPU and that Dell has stopped production of the 8 year old 2014 AGA. This is a disgrace, and I will never buy any dell product ever again. And this is coming from a guy that payed $4000 on an Alienware 15 R2 max out specs back in 2016 and bought my first Alienware graphics amplifier. And before that I had one of the first xps desktops, over all I have spent over $30,000 with dell over the years. I will be going else where for my pc needs.

The issue you'll face is that there are few alternatives -- the sole remaining upgradeable notebook systems are the Clevo-built boutique models (sold as Sager, AVA, Eurocom, Falcon Northwest, etc.).
And even those have limits to upgradeability.
