m17 R1, BIOS UPDATE Alienware_m15_m17_2.17.0.ex
Alienware m17
I have regularly updated the Bios using the "forceit" method as described on Dell`s website. There are also vids on You Tube detailing various ways to do it.
I have never had a problem updating the BIOS but the recent update Alienware_m15_m17_2.17.0.exe will not work via cmd or run method. Worryingly. I get a message "Error: Secure flash check failure (0x1)"
I note there is a method using Rufus but this looks a tad complex for me.
Any suggestions as I am reading that the error suggests that this is not the correct file but this is what is available on the DELL update site.
The current BIOS is 2.16.0.
thank you

Hi @DJFraz welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.
Alienware m15/m17 R1 System BIOS | Driver Details | Dell US.
There is a similar thread that hopefully provides the fix. Solved: bios update problem - Dell Community.

There is something puzzling me here. My current system bios is 2.15.0. However, I found it strange that the latest Bios is 2.17.0. When I checked the Dell update Bios history, there is a 2.16.0 file. I have never seen this file and have never updated to 2.16.0. I tried to update to 2.16.0 first but this will not work either.

I really appreciate your help with this. Unfortunately, I can`t see the very first screenshot at the top. The rest I can see okay. Can you post the steps to follow for that screenshot?
Once again thank you.

Hello, I tried updating via USB but although I can see the update, everything is greyed out and I cannot update.
