x17 R1, slow Wi-Fi 6 performance

I am getting significantly worse Wi-Fi 6 performance on my Alienware x17 R1 than Wi-Fi 5. My Wi-Fi 5 is getting upwards of 600Mbps, but Wi-Fi 6 is anywhere form 100Mbps to 400Mbps. My ASUS x670e that is sitting right next to the x17 R1 gets over 800Mbps consistently. I have updated my Wi-Fi drivers and bios on my x17 R1. I fully updated Windows as well.

How do you check performance?

Multiple speed test sites and downloading from various websites. I also run a speed test from the router to confirm the overall bandwidth of my connection.

However, none of this really matters, as I have another PC that gets over double the speed on average with Wi-Fi 6 using the same ways of testing. It is for sure the X17 that’s having trouble.

Hi @STOPchris ,

@DELL-Chris M Reply is most important in finding out how to properly give you a solution, so he's great for putting that one out.

I highly recommend you tweak around with the settings shown in this screen shot in the device manager here:

Please get back to me as soon as possible so I can assist if needed.

Hi @Johonney ,

Type www.speedtest.net into your Web browser search bar,

Then run the test and you should see your preformance.

None of the solutions here have helped. I was able to get normal/expected speeds by bringing my laptop about 5 feet away from the router. I’m guessing the antenna in the x17 just isn’t all that great.

I just built a second desktop that is in the same room as the x17 and the first desktop. Both of my desktop computers get ~800Mbps, but the x17 right next to them gets 100-400Mbps.

Hi @STOPchris ,
If nothing via software or hardware is wrong then you're right.

The WiFi antenna is weaker than your desktop.
