Hot backup Mode

hi guys,

we are very new to app sync and trying to implement it. As of now we are using crash consistent copy but with this my Archive Log fs is not being copied while copy back.

1. To mount Archive Log on target server while copy back what should we do?

2. should we use Hot backup mode to mount archive FS while copy back?

3. What will be the impact on source/target db if we use hot backup mode.

thanks

AppSync will manage the archive logs only when there is hotbackup mode enabled. In order for hotbackup mode, the archive logs must be on their own fs/VG/disk/etc., from the control files/redo logs...please refer to the user and admin guide for more of these details.

I am not an Oracle specialists, but believe the implication of not using hotbackup, means you are to limit the point in time you can recover. For example, you take a non-hotbackup at 6PM, and then the next day need to recover...you will be able to restore that 6PM copy, however, if you had taken a hotbackup copy, you could potentially restore the 6PM copy, and then roll the more recent archive logs to near time of failure, so it would reduce the amount of time you loose.

I am under the impression you should always use hotbackup when taking a copy for protection, however, if you are simply repurposing a copy, e.g. using a copy for test/dev, then non-hotbackup is sufficient.
