6.1 Exchange VSS Backup fails - Size limit reached (avexvss WARN 1104)

Hi,

I am trying to move our exchange 2007 CCR environment to Avamar however so far I cannot get a scheduled backup to work correctly. Last nights backup ran for 9 hours but the failed with the following errors in the logs:

I have read up a little and added the following option to the data-set from the performance tuning guide

[avtar]hashcachemax = 200

I am trying to backup a server with 15 storage group databases that are average 65Gb each with database level backups. Doing an 'on-demand' backup of single databases works well just the scheduled backup or all fails.

I am now also trying an 'on-demand' backup of all the Dbs with the above option set to see if that makes any difference. I don't want to have to resort to kicking of a on-demand backup of each database to ensure I have a protected environement for the weekend but may have to resort to that.

We did not 'pre-seed' the exchange data into Avamar as 'well connected' to the grid in a local datacentre.

I would recommend opening a service request for this issue. Please attach the complete log to the SR as this will speed up troubleshooting.

It would also be helpful to enable debugging for this client for the next scheduled backup since debug logs provide more information about what might be going wrong.

Thanks, we logged a support call. Basically the VSS issue with the snapshot size was down to just the sheer size of the DB and backed up logs files for 6 days of failed backups (on the old backup process). Once this was cleared down to a more managable size the backup did run successfully.

Hello Paul et al,

We have identified improvements to this process, which will be part of Avamar 6.1.101 (i.e. 6.1 SP1), which should reduce the need for the workaround.

After initiating the on demand back up the back up got completed successfully.

Please help me out to fix the above issue in future.

nivel - please open your own problem so people see it is a new one, and not a continuation of the opened in 2012
