Avamar VM Backup fails & Migration = Perfect Storm?

While Backing up VMs a few nights ago, we went to the end of the 5am backup window & 3 VM backups failed.  Then about 8 hours later, we migrated some of the VMs to another host.  That night when the backups ran, all 3 of VMs failed the Snapshots/backups and then POWERED OFF!!!!!!  I feel the problem is that even though the backup ran out of time, Avamar should have deleted the VM snapshot, and it didn't.  The snapshot remained until the next night's backup where began the backup by first attempting to delete the old snapshot, and then Creating a new snapshot like normal.  Since Avamar messed up the VM's vmx file (I believe) ESX could not Continue running the VM and powered it off.  I was then Unable to start the VM and had to repair the VMX file.

VMWare vSphere 4 Update 2 (build 258672)

Here is the series of events:

  1. Create Snapshot

  3. @ 5am, ran out of time and backup cancelled
  4. I migrated the VM to another host
  5. Next Avamar backup begins by removing the snapshot and fails
  6. Tries to create snapshot
  7. Snapshot fails and VM is powered off due to error.

Hi,

What is the number error show in the Avamar Activity ?

Please, put the log file.

The Avamar proxy is set for all Luns of the vCenter?

Test:

1- Remove all Snapshot yourself

2- Suspend the Maintenace Windows (because BlackOut abort all backup)

3- Run again.
