Avamar-Vmware doubts
Hi all,
This is my Environment,
Vmware: 4.1.0 update 1 (348481)
Avamar server: 6.0.1-65
Avamar Proxy: AvamarVmImageProxy-linux-6.0.101-65
I have two problems with Backup and Restore,
a.- When I run image backup, it doesn´t work, because of this message in the avamar log
2012-01-25 16:41:56 avvcbimage Error <12016>: vmx file is suspiciously small (under 30 bytes), please examine the log on the Avamar Administrator for root cause analysis
2012-01-25 16:41:56 avvcbimage Error <9760>: Backup of VM metadata failed.
If I use parameter x22=8192 works ok
b.- When I run Restore, I have these results
1.- Restore to original virtual machine
Works OK
2.- Restore to a different virtual machine
3.- Restore to new virtual machine. it is clear why the backup did not copy the vmx file from vcenter.

Are the VMs inside vAPP or something? X22=8192 skips vmx file from backup so that’s normal

Try to download vmx file yourself from vSphere client usind datastore browser and see if that fails so that you way know where the problem is.

Ensure you have selected all datastores in Administration> Edit each proxy> select all datastores.

Hi,
ok, i will see the file.
On the other hand, when i restore to different vm, avamar shows me "proxy not found", but if i restore to original vm it works ok, any idea about this issue?

Thanks for your help
I have one only proxy and I have checked all things that the guide for vmware suggests, but Avamar show me tha same error 30901 "FAILED TO INITIATE A BACKUP OR RESTORE FOR A VIRTUAL MACHINE BECAUSE NO PROXY WAS FOUND TO SERVICE THE VIRTUAL MACHINE."
I can´t understand why i can restore to original vm and when i try restore to a different existing vm, avamar show this error.

I have installed ESXi 4.1 Update 2 Build 502767 and it fixed the problems

1) have your VCenter guys check to see if this server needs to have its snapshots consolidated. (I get that issue every now and then)
2) in administaration go find your proxy - edit it. Verify there is a checkmark next to all datastores. If the other machine you are trying to restore is in a different VNX and your proxy has not been told it has access to the VNX it won't work. Also go to the groups tab and check them all - say ok.
