make sure client can talk to Data Domain interface that is defined in Avamar (can client ping DD, can client traceroute DD ...etc)

If DNS is OK and all necessary ports are open to DD, assuming that your DD is in DDOS 5.5 - try this https://support.emc.com/kb/196084

Resolution -
Add the fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) of DDR grid with the appropriate IP address that is on the same VLAN as the client to local hosts file. The hosts file on Windows clients is located in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc folder.
Then ping the FQDN of the DDR grid to verify that it is returning the appropriate IP address.

Could this same solution work for MacOSX server [except that the host file is located in /private/etc/hosts]?
Thanks,
Mike

Check host entries are there or not .
if your using DD . Avamar will search for host name .
