Gen 4 DRAC coniguration
Hi, does anyone know of a document that describes how to configure the DRAC on Gen 4 hardware pelase? When ours was originally installed the DRAC wasn't configured and I now need to set it up.

Hi David
Here's the link https://powerlink.emc.com/nsepn/webapps/btg548664833igtcuup4826/km/appmanager/km/secureDesktop?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=default&internalId=0b014066805a1343&_irrt=true
On the left side you'll see where you caan choose the product/software and versions that you can download the documentation for.
I hope this will help.

David,
A correction:
My inital statement was to log into the utility node. This is not correct. Log into the node that needs to have the drac settings changed.
The rest of the process is correct.
Thank you,
Mark

Hello David!
The Dell Remote Access card is pretty easy to configure. Log into the utility node as root to work with the settings.
At the prompt, if you type racadm and hit enter, you will get the list of syntaxs for the tool. racadm is the admin tool for the remote access card. Setting the IP address of the drac is pretty quick and easy:
racadm setniccfg -s IP address Subnetmask Gateway
setniccfg it to set the nic configuration
-s is to set the drac to a static IP address
The rest you should know (IP, SNM, GW)
here is an example of the command:
racadm setniccfg -s 114.175.205.34 255.255.255.0 114.175.205.1
To verify the configuration took, run:
racadm getniccfg
You should receive something along this line:
IPv4 settings:
NIC Enabled = 1
IPv4 Enabled = 1
DHCP Enabled = 0
IP Address = 114.175.205.34
Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway = 114.175.205.1

If you want more details about the drac settings, you can run this command:
racadm getsysinfo
It should return something like this:

It is my recommendation that the Avamar nodes be set with sequntial IP address. It will make the process easier should support need to use the DRAC for cinnecting to multiple nodes.
As I am sure you are aware, the DRAC is accessed via a web browser using the IP address assigned to the DRAC. However, I would like to note that typically Internet Explorer handles the video streaming better than Firefox or Chrome. There are plug-ins that can be added to these browsers, but even after I have put this in, I have encountered issues.
I hope this information helps!

I don't know how to do this, we configured ours to use the serial management port.

For shared configurations, the DRAC is configured with its own IP address in the usual way (using racadm) it's just that the DRAC shares the physical NIC with the host system. Once the IP is configured, you should be able to access the DRAC by browsing to the IP from a workstation.

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see the configuration information in the documents. At most I see accessing the DRAC and this tidbit...
How does one access the iDRAC over eth0?

I used racadm setniccfg to give it a new IP address but it appears to be still looking at the dedicated iDRAC nic for connectivity. How do I access it over eth0?

Hello!
Here is some information that may help you:
Log into the node in question as root.
Set the DRAC port to either shared or dedicated by typing:
racadm config -g cfglannetworking -o cfgnicselection 0
Where the value for cfgnicselection is: 0 for shared - 2 for dedicated

Hi Mark,
Happy New Year.
Thank you so much for your instruction. I am new in DRAC it seems it is already installed on one of my servers (I can log in to the server through DRAC) but when I go to:
"C:\Program Files\Dell\SysMgt\RAC4\" and run "racadm getniccfg"
the error message below will appear:
"Unable to communicate with RAC controller. Please make sure that a RAC controller is present in the server and appropriate software is installed."
I receive the error message on the same server which I am able to connect to it through DRAC.
Any recommendation?
Also I need to reset Username and password of DRAC card on my servers. the ex-ex IT manager sat them up and cannot remember them now.
any recommendation?
Thank you in advance for your time

Hi there,I figure it out how to reset the password by rebooting the server and using Ctrl + E, but I still looking for the solution on the error message.

Alex_01, it's not clear what you're trying to accomplish here. Are you having issues with the DRAC on your Avamar Server? If so, I'm not sure why you are trying to run racadm on a Windows host.

Is there any reason the system would tell me that the racadm command not found? v7.1
